BIOGRAPHY
HER ROYAL HIGHNESS THE RAJA PERMAISURI PERAK,
TUANKU BAINUN BINTI MOHD. ALI, D.K. , D.M.N
 

Her Royal Highness the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Bainun was born in Pulau Pinang, Her Royal Highness received her early education at the St.George's School, Pulau Pinang, and was selected to further her studies at the Teacher's Training College, Kirkby, England from 1952 to 1954.

A year after returning from England, Her Royal Highness the Raja Permaisuri married His Royal Highness Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah. His Royal Highness was then a Magistrate in Kuala Lumpur, while Her Royal Highness was teaching at her former school.  Her Royal Highness has taught in various schools in Kuala Lumpur, Seremban, Raub, Taiping and Kuantan.

Her Royal Highness was proclaimed the Raja Permaisuri Perak Darul Ridzuan on February 19, 1988 in a historic ceremony at Istana Kinta in Ipoh. His Royal Highness Sultan Azlan Shah was selected as the ninth Yang di-Pertuan Agong and during the Oath Taking and Signing Ceremony on April 26, 1989, Her Royal Highness was proclaimed Raja Permaisuri Agong.
 

Their Royal Highnesses are blessed with two princes and two princesses. The eldest prince of Their Royal Highnesses, Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Raja Nazrin Shah ibni Sultan Azlan Shah was born on November 27, 1956 and is now the Crown Prince of Perak. His Highness holds a B.A. (Hons) degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University, a Master in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University and Ph.D in Political Economy and Government from Harvard University, USA.

Yang Amat Mulia Raja Dato� Seri Azureen binti Sultan Azlan Shah was born on December 9, 1957 and holds a bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and Economics from Syracuse University, USA and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from London Business School , University of London, England. Yang Amat Mulia married Dato� Seri Mohd. Salleh bin Dato� Ismail.

Yang Amat Mulia Raja Dato� Seri Ashman Shah ibni Sultan Azlan Shah was born on December 28, 1958 and was conferred the title of Yang Amat Mulia Raja Kechil Bongsu Perak Darul Ridzuan on May 11, 1987.Yang Amat Mulia holds a Degree in Economics from the University of Nottingham, England, a Master of LAWS from the Cambridge University; Barrister-at-Law from Lincoln�s Inn, London, and a Diploma in Business Law, University of London, England.

Yang Amat Mulia Raja Eleena binti Sultan Azlan Shah was born on April 3, 1960 and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Law from the University of London and Barrister-at-Law from Lincoln�s Inn, London. Yang Amat Mulia is now a solicitor with her own legal firm in Kuala Lumpur.

The youngest princess, Yang Amat Mulia Raja Yong Sofia binti Sultan Azlan Shah was born on June 24, 1961 and holds a Master's Degree in Administration from London�s International University, England. Yang Amat Mulia married Yang Mulia Tunku Kamel bin Tunku Rijaludin on December 5, 1987.

Her Royal Highness the Raja Permaisuri shares a common interest with His Royal Highness the Sultan of Perak in sports especially golf. Her Royal Highness pays serious attention to her subjects and is always close to them, especially the women. Her Royal Highness also has a deep interest in welfare activities. Her Royal Highness' hobbies include collecting recipes, floral arrangement and reading.
